Tail light lenses. 84 SR5, Exr

Story is I backed into a dumpster the other day and broke the backup lease on the left side. Ordered new for both sides. Now the question. , I haven’t even looked at the chrome edging and how to remove it to install on the new ones. Have any of you guys had experience with this before I do something not needed?

The chrome is part of the tail light housing. It is not a separate piece.

Are you replacing just the lens or the whole tail light assembly?

Just the lense for now. Will investigate further when it warms up.

If you are just replacing the lenses, all you need to do is remove the six screws that attach each lens to each housing, and the old lens will come off.

Four of the screws of each housing also attach the tail light assembly to the bed.

Thank you Jake. I hadn’t really looked to deep yet, but thought the trim was separate. No issue though, just will have some new naked tail lights!

There is also a rubber seal that dries out and cracks that can be replaced as well. I don't even think mine have them ATM.

Well I guess I answered my own question. The chrome trim is actually part of the housing. And there is a rubber seal around the inside of the housing so the lenses actually just mount easily. But something I did not actually know or had noticed before is that there is small marker bulb on the lower part of the housing. Will have to replace those as the one I checked was burnt out. I am planning on painting the truck this summer so I will change out these parts when I do that.
