well when i plug the temp sending unit in and i start the rig it runs fine for a min then just dies. but if i unplug the unit it runs fine but as seen as i plug it back in it dies. when warm and the gauge reads mid. 84 22r 4runner California.

 

Are you sure its the coolant temp sender? That seems odd if that has anything to do with your engine dying.... Your carb doesnt really care what the engine temp is, other than the choke doing its job and causing rich mix when cold.

 

it is and the dying problem is not gas but spark. so im just relly need to know what piggy backs the sender to maybe shut off the spark when eng gets to hot?

 

I cant think where or how the coolant temp sensor would kill the truck. I have seen Toys overheat and blow hoses, radiators, head gaskets, etc, and not have the spark killed.

The only thing I can think is MAYBE it is ignitor related.

Maybe when the engine is warm or hot, it causes underhood temps to be high which will sometimes cause the ignition module to kill, which kills spark. Hell, i am at a loss here...

 

thats not it because it run fine with the sensor unpluged. well im thinking that the PO did somthing wrong when he wired the aftermarket ignitor

 

Oh... So more details... Aftermarket ignitor... previous owner problem.... LOL

I am still at a loss as to where the ignition system and coolant temp sensor are related. Its a 22R Cali. Gotta be at least an emissions computer, but it may have a full on ECU since its Cali emissions. Thats the only possible common link I can figure. Your sure its coolant temp? Where exactly is this sensor located in the engine compartment?
