just bought this 1985 2wd pickup 22r. Cleaning some things up and can't for the life of me figure out what's going on here.
the relay rod for the tie rods just sits right up against oil pan and rubs back and forth.
motor mounts look okay to me.. unless they're the wrong ones? Are there different motor mounts for different applications?
Maybe wrong idler arm? I don't know I'm dead in my tracks need some input and ideas... yes I'm aware some tierod ends are loose I had to pop them free to remove oil pan.
Also forgot to mention rod only touches oil pan when wheels are straight. When I turn the wheels right or left there is good clearance. Which makes me think wrong idler arm. When the wheel is straight the idler arm is fully extended
I tried to look in my shed yesterday for a 2wd oil pan, but it's a mess and weather hasn't been any better lol. I know there's an oil pan in there, just not sure if 4x4 or 2wd. Defo seems to be the wrong oil pan for the model of truck, finding out what it's from is interesting though.
Let's atleast figure out the year range the engine is =). I'd assume you have the "laser block" on the driver's side. From memory it's just in front of the motor mount. Probably a pain to see with the alt on, maybe underside you can see better.
Did not know that! I will take a look at that after work.. But I think you're right as the pistons are flat top and the head has pear shape exhaust ports..
Alright this is definitely the wrong oil pan. I pulled it out again and I was wrong about how I said it looked lol. Here's some more pics. This thing is tiny. My sump and oil plug are directly above the crossmember. L5wolvesf sits further back behind crossmember.. it has to be out of a car application. But I still have never seen one like mine anywhere online.
Notice the gap between sump and sway bar on mine vs L5wolvesf. My sump is further forward and causing relay rod to hit it. Notice how much deeper L5wolvesf sump is than mine. In reference to crossmember. My crossmember is removed but you can see where it bolts across.
Haha funny. Did the block have that laser spot? I wonder if the whole engine is from that era too.
The block did indeed have lazerspot.. did they have the 22r in that era? I was under the impression that era of rigs wer 20r.. I've been wrong once before tho lol...
The block has the laser spot and is stamped 22r with flat top pistons.. all those indicate 85+ right? The head is for sure post 85.. just can't figure out why someone would swap in a 20r oil pan, pickup tube, and dipstick into the wrong application...
