Project Cream Dream + The Crush = Colorado fun!

Also, check out the red circle. In it you will see my EXACT truck it its stock form. I'm gonna try and get it off of my neighbor, somehow, but he drives it every day. We'll have to see how that goes.

Pinion angle looks fine. When doing the chevy spring swap both the spring hanger and the shackle were dropped down about the same amount. I guess you're right about hitting 2 birds with one stone. I was more curious as to what others have encountered when doing their 86+ rear axle swap.

Very nice build but I wanna know somethin else... what are those freakin huge bicycle wheels for? They arent for a 36" cruiser are they? Also lets the what bike got the PUSH treatment! (I see the push sticker on your truck)

As for the bike wheels, my friend, Jerry, makes "functional art" furniture out of trashed out bicycle parts. They are only 700c wheels, must look big in the pic. There's a glass top that goes over it. It's a coffee table, but turned out a little tall.

Thanks, yours too, but time for some gears and lockers! I was actually checking out some youtube wheeling videos last night and saw you getting pulled over. Pretty funny, cause that kind of stuff doesn't even matter here in Colorado. If it rolls, you're good to go! No mud flaps or plate lights, no problem.

It's been a few weeks, but I have been making (some) progress. I got my marlin crawler dual adapter and built my crawl box, a new clutch kit, and a set of 40s that I may or may not use. They are 40x17 on 3.5" back spaced rims. I will proabaly HAVE to swap in my 89 rear axle to run them without hitting the frame rails, and I'm going to need some front wheel spacers, 5.29s, and crossover steer before I can even think about taking it out for a trail run. Too bad it's going to be snowing here any day.

cool, cool. i just found your build. i like the simplicity and the home fabrication. i must have missed what your plans are for springs in the front? did you say? are you going to use the stock rears up there? the 40's will be cool, but your gonna need to address the birfield problem as well. better to prevent the breakage than wait for it and have it leave you stranded somewhere. nice build up.

I was busy this weekend. Got the new clutch, W-56 tranny, and duals all installed! I scored a sweet BudBuilt dual case X-member from AxleIke, thanks. Also went wheeling with the Horsetooth Wheelers up at Moody Hill and had a great time. Here are a couple pick of the dual install.

In an effort to fit those 40s, and to beef up my front end a little bit I decided to make a drop/forward mount spring hanger. This is the first project I actually made drawn out plans for. Check it out.

Dual cases rock
Did your cases have the 4.7 gears in the rear case?
Here's what I had to do to get 40's to fit without rubbing on my 4Runner. You'll have it easier in the rear since you can just yank the bed and flatbed it. On the front, you're going to have to move the axle forward a couple of inches and tub the firewall to gain enough space for the tire moving back and up while being compressed.

I'd be happy to help answer any questions since I just did the procedure this past spring.

Well, As of right now both my cases are stock, but 2 nights ago I picked up a set of 4.70 gears new in the box for $200 (thanks Craig's List!), so I'll be pulling the rear case and regearing it this weekend. I got a letter from the City of Ft. Collins telling me it's illegal to have an inoperable vehicle on my property, so most of my weekend will be spent stripping down my 89 parts truck for useable parts.
FREE 89 LONG BED FRAME IN PERFECT CONDITION, NO RUST, TO ANYONE WHO CAN COME AND PICK IT UP. FREE!!!!! Located in Ft. Collins, CO. PM if interested.

Made some progress today. Pulled the rear case (luckilly I hadn't filled it yet) and threw in the 4.70 gears. Let me tell you, it's a LOT easier to build a crawl box and mate it to te adapter than it is to install 4.70 gears, but now I have both! No twin stick, but I should be fine with the 2wd low range that the crawl box offers. I figure if I'm in double low that I should probably be in 4x4 anyway. Tomorrow I'll cut off the stock rear spring perches from my 89 rear axle and get it mounted under cream. The stock perches were too wide and I need to address my rear pinion angle now that the rear output flange is so far back. I've decided to run my 32s until I get everything dialed for the 40s, crossover with hydro assist, studs, axle width etc. They're really massive, and I can't wait to run em, but I still have a long way to go before the truck is ready for that kind of strain. Plus, winter is coming, so I'll have a lot more time to build than I will have time to wheel. My boss blocked me from getting on yotatech at work, so updates will be slowing down, grrrr.
