Today ifound golden metal flakes and pieces in my oil pan. she still starts good and runs hard, but I have noticed a lack of horse power and gas mileage lately. What do you think? Thanks everyone!

 

did you pull the oil pan or did the flakes come out with the oil at oil change time?

and are we talking FLAKES, or DUST?

flakes tell me bearings, and thats no bueno. but without seeing pictures, i couldnt tell you for sure. any weird noises?

 

I pulled the oil pan to replace the gasket and i noticed flakes. Gold/ court colored. Also got in it a bit last week and noticed she hung up a bit at like 3 grand then ran fine. I do have a picture but i can't figure out how to upload it from a phone!

ya. definitely bearings. same thing happened to mine. went ahead and just got a new motor.

 

If it were me, rather than just buying a new motor, I would tear it down and check the extent of damage. It sounds like, based on your description, that there wasn't any weird noises so you may have just spun a bearing and can get by with a new bearing set, and regrinding the crank.

You'll have to tear it down and get everything measured to see what's out of tolerance and where to go from there.

 

Yea I'm going to go ahead and do a rebuild. I haven't heard any noises, she starts great and runs nice and smooth so I'm going if i drive her like she's bringing miss daisy hopefully she will last r till the rebuild

 

I hate to admit that I've been driving on a bad bearing in my car for about 6 months... just don't beat on it and keep your fluids topped and you should be ok... SHOULD be... (insert disclaimer of responsibility here)

Personally, i got a new motor because i had to get my crank redone, my cam was a little worn, i was on head gasket #3, the exhaust bolt threads in the head were totally stripped, and i had some nasty carbon build up from the egr. had close to 300k on the stock motor. rather than take everything apart and build it with my limited selection of tools, i just ordered a quality motor. if i had more than just hand tools id probably go for it myself.
