Pinion Shaft Nut Size?

I am getting ready to replace the pinion seal in my front diff. Does anyone know the nut size for my 84 Pickup for the pinion shaft nut? I've read several articles and I have seen a couple of different sizes that some have used. This is a factory diff from 1984. I'm going to try and run out and get the right socket this afternoon, I hope...

Thanks

Yep, 30mm and be sure to un-stake the nut first:

Thanks for the quick responses. I am running out now to get the seal and socket so I can crawl under her in the morning to fix it. I think I'll go ahead and pick up some 1/8 NPT fittings so I can do the diff extensions while I'm at it.

Does it matter which RTV silicone I use on the shaft?

For sealing around the splines, most likely you would want to use something rated for gear oil contact. For Toyota FIPG, the orange stuff, or something like Permatex ultra-gray. But in a pinch, any type would probably be better than nothing.

Ok... One more on the ultra grey. Do I need to let it sit for 24 hours before adding fluid and driving or should I be good to add fluid after the repair?
