Pinion nut

Hello again.

The front axle oil seal (the one in line with the driveshaft) has gone out. I was curious if the front axle wasanything like the rear axle. You see, the rear axle's pinion nut is NOT REUSEABLE! I'm wondering if the front axle's pinion nut is the same way so that I can order one before pulling the front axle apart. This truck is my dd.

Thank you!

Dan

IIRC they are all staked nuts. Some folks do reuse them.

Hmmm. I just had my pinion nut back off while on a roadtrip, and after the bearings were replaced, we just reused the same pinion nut(new seal, bearings and crush sleeve though). Am I setting myself up for failure?

If you restake it in the same spot it wont hold as well as the first time, my experience. I just skip the restake and use blue threadlocker so I don't tear my nut up. Never had one move since I started using that method.
