Oil pump scoring
#1
I've just installed a new 22re and after getting an oil leak at the crank seal I figured maybe I damaged the seal putting it in. I decided to check the oring. Once I pulled the pump I noticed scoring in the gears, pump, and on the face of the timing cover. There must have been particles in the oil. I've pulled the valve cover to check if anything went south in the head. All looks good. The first oil change I drove it for 170 miles. Then changed. I did prime the pump with oil not assembly lube. Thoughts on how this happened? Perhaps too long on the first oil change? Did adding rtv with the oring on the pump allow for a little extra play in the gears?
