does onyone know what ring goes toward the top of the piston the shinny crome one or the black dull one i got the oil ring on no prob.. my piston kit didnt tell me what way they go on can anyone help...?

Rule of thumb is that the lettering will go up, but if you look at the rings like head on and if you see the indent on the ring is in(/) it goes up and if it is down (\) it goes out. It's hard to describe without drawing it but hopefully you understand what I am tryin to say. It's like sex if it's up it's in and if it's out it's down. ( My auto teacher taught me that)

 

the top ring is stainless steel, #2 ring is cast iron.

 

Im right in the middle of replacing rings on my 84. the middle compression scraper ring is different thicknesses i think. my rings are also marked 1a 2a on the top on the rings.
