My new 85

Newbie here with my first Toyota. PO had it overheat and shut down on them. It was mine for the price of hauling it home. It runs but has a pretty bad knock. I guess I have a winter project.

Everything is stock and it has 140k miles

I figured for now I would pull the motor and rebuild. I have driven this prior to the breakdown and it ran really good and was fun to drive. I am planning on using it as a daily driver once it is operational. I have not been able to determine for sure but I think that everything is stock? and yes it is turbo-efi

I'm thinking swap, I've never seen one either.

Either way that is a sweet ride - looks like the first step is to get it cleaned up and see what you're really working with!

Great Deal, I have always loved the 80's Toyota's! I miss my old blue 86 4Runner, but someone on this board still has it going with 290K + miles.

I believe they made the 85 with the turbo efi but not built that many. but i could be wrong but i think i read it some where that they started producing the 22ret in late 85 put it in some 85 but mostly made for 86 n older till whenever they stopped makin em.

I lived in Georgia for 7 years, other than that right here. I will be driving through Grangeville tomorrow on my way to Kamiah for a football game.

If your coming through Grangeville heading to Kamiah you will be just a little over a mile from my house. Here is a picture of my 86 4Runner, its been my project for the last 2-1/2 years.

Thanks,

Your truck is very nice also, and best of all is that it was free. Even though it needs engine work you still got a good deal. Once you get it cleaned up and running good you will be good to go. When i got my 4Runner it was a basket case, the interior was shot, it ran real bad and everything was rigged so it would work. Ive spent a lot of time and money building it and putting it back together, ive also added things to it that it didn`t originally come with, it an on going project.
