lots of messed up wiring advice

I bought a truck that has a lot of messed up wiring. When i turn the lights on, both the brake light and the tail light filaments in the bulb turn on. What can i do it to make sure they come on separately? I mean where should i start looking for to make it so that the brake controls one filament and the light switch controls the tail light? Seems like maybe the light switch wire got crossed with the brake wire somewhere?

I think i might be buying a fire extinguisher soon.

You could have a bad head light switch, but that`s just a guess. You need to tear into the wiring and start checking things out, look for broken or spliced wires, look for bare wires and anything else that doesn`t look right, then repair or replace as needed.

i found it. it was actually in the tail light itself, they had wired one incorrectly, which made the other come on too. Works great now! even my license plate lights work!
