lifting a 85 2wd questions

I have a 1985 Toyota 2wd 5spd pickup and I want to lift it with out spending tons of money on lift kit i'm on a tight budget a co worker has ball joint spacers for a 4x4 with ifs will they work in my truck or waste of money? I was planning on lift blocks for the rear. any help would be greatly appreciated

2wd trucks have a different suspension setup than the 4wd trucks. The torsion bars are on the lower A-arms instead of the upper with a different ball joint setup, so the ball joint spacers will not work. Tightening the torsion bars will lift it some, but if you want more lift then you need a lift spindle. There are also aftermarket, thicker torsion bars that will be able to lift it more.

The rear axle is sprung under, so blocks would actually lower it. You could convert the axle to a spring over, use shackles, or lift springs. They appear to be the same springs as 4x4 trucks just sprung under, but I am not sure about that. You might be able to swap in a 4x4 axle if you do not mind the lug pattern being different. I believe the spring perches are the same width, but you would need to measure to be sure.
