Just picked up a 1985 4runner
This is my new project just picked it up for $1800 and this thing needs a lot of work but is still drivable. Has a little bit of rust not too bad, at least for up here. I have just started cleaning it up because I don't think it has ever been cleaned in its entire life. The rear window is busted out and tailgate damaged along with front fender. I am starting with the interior though and can not decide between lining the floor or doing a carpet kit. Oh, this is going to be a daily driver/ weekend wheeler and family camping rig.

nice, and i just noticed you replied to the other thread about how someone bought the other one out from under you that sucks, but in my opinion a 1st gen 4runner that runs and drives is definately worth what you paid. but it also depends on where you are but ive seen ones in worse shape sale for more than you paid where i live. i am a fan of carpet but it mostly comes down to what works best for you it is your rig after all

Ya it felt a little pricey but its the only one I could find and at least it is daily drivable, its just a little drafty with the busted window. I am also leaning towards carpet I am not liking the road noise.

Cool! Thank you for your service. I too am stationed here at ft.rich(jber now). I see by your name you were in 4-25 like me. Anyways I did decide on carpet just looking for a kit that doesn't cost more than the kit to ship it here.

por-15 and bedline then put a house carpet in there. maybe do what I did and have a separate piece for the footwells you can pull out and shake instead of needing a vacuum or brush. works good when your offroad and notice dried mud and boulders. pull it out and give it a shake then throw it back in and keep going

Ball joint spacers up front
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...ntSpacer.shtml
and shackles or blocks in the rear
you can practically fit 33s on those trucks stock, but depending on rim backspacing and tire width you will probably experience a bit of rubbing if you don't lift 1-2 inches or trim the fenders.
both the front ball joint spacers and the rear shackles (or blocks) are bolt-on, no-weld solutions to lift the truck enough to fit the tires you want. with the ball joint spacers you do have to trim the upper control arm a bit, but it's no big deal even for inexperiences fabbers.

The tailgate isnt as bad to work on as you might think. Just finding a glass might be the problem. As far as carpet, I use stockinteriors.com and there are other brands as well. About any aftermarket carpet is going to be fit to the floorpan, but be prepared to do alot of trimming. It is typically 2inches wider then the orginal carpet was and wont have any of the holes marked or cut.
It runs about $150 for the seating area. They want about as much for the trunk area too.. I just get my trunk carpet from a carpet shop and do some trimming to fit. It is fairly easy to do. A remant for the trunk is around $20, which is alot better then $130 for the trunk.
I like that it cuts down noise and helps with the temperture inside myself.
