So I've been working on tuning my weber and I'm a little lost at this one. I know a black looking plug is rich, brownish is typically good, and white is lean. Can you take a look at this plug here and let me know what you think. Seems to be semi white and then the base of the electrode (not sure on the terminology) is black. Where, on the plug, is the first place that will show signs of how the engine is running after making adjustments? Is it the base of the electrode that is black? Anyways, any input on this would be great. Thanks.

The plug is new and probably has about 150 miles on it and I have messed around with the jets on my weber 32/36 that is supplying fuel to a 20r/22r.

 

Your still running a bit rich, going by the picture and the bottom edge of the plug being black. Try leaning it out a little more and see what happens.

 

Basically, you're looking for a clean plug. That's just slightly dirty, and/or looks like it's running just a tad rich. Not a whole lot. Just a smidge. Or you've been driving some short trips/not getting the engine up to a sustainably high enough temperature for the spark plugs to self-clean efficiently.

 

Thanks for the input. Will the condition of the air/fuel mix be shown first toward the base of the plug where it is black now?

 

The bottom edge of the threaded part will be a lot cleaner and the base will also be cleaner. Do a google search on SPARK PLUG READING and you will find pictures and explanations of how to read spark plugs and how to tell if your using the proper heat range, its actually some good reading.
