input on new truck?

so as some as you know my 85PU was stolen and stripped. being in love with MY truck i dont want to sell it. i want to re build it. it needs a new engine, tranny, drive line. and pretty much everything out of the engine bay. so i cant jsut buy a new 22re and call it good. so i have been looking for a part truck. i found a 83 that has a 86 motor and tranny (efi) and it has been certified so it was a legit swap. problem is. it has been sittin in this guys yard and he doesnt knwo if it will start or fire or anything. no battery. no starter. old drive line broke ( he has a brand new one sittin in the cab just never put it on) steering wheel lug is stripped so wheel comes off. my problem is i dont know if its worth the cash or if i should look for another running yota. it has everything i need, even power steering. body is in perfect shape. aside form dirt and leaves from sitting there. has like a 3" lift and maybe 33's possibly 31's. any other questions or input? any and all is welcomed. he is asking 700 but i want to talk him down to 500 considering the work it will take to get it running.

Man for $500, you could part out everything you dont use and make that back, I would do it, I mean you can sell the motor and tranny for that if it doesnt work like you want it to!!

buy a starter and throw a battery in there. if it works great, if not, take the starter back and tell them it was the wrong one.

sounds like a decent buy to me if the truck has everything you need. something to be said about getting it all at once instead of doing it peice meal off craigslist and finding out what you bought was the wrong one...
