Ignition Timing 22R
I just did the headgasket/timing in my 84. Now i'm having timing problems. Okay i got it running. All cylinders are firing. Engine/valve timing are dead on. We checked the chain three times before we put everything back together. It wants to start on its own but i have to floor it fora sec to get it to fire up. Once it does, the timing mark is about a an inch and a half or so to the left of 0. Like 30 degrees i think? If i dial it into 0 it doesnt stay running unless i'm almost wide open on the throttle. Nor will it start after that. I had a spare igniton laying around and i swaped it out, nothing. Unless both are bad or something. Idk....
Thanks for input guys

The contact points on the dizzy cap are lining up right and I tried moving it ahead a tooth, barely got it running once. I moved it back a tooth from where it first was and it wouldn't start even.

you sure your not 180 out on the dizzy? or the plug wires are not mixed up? What do you mean contact points on the cap? The cap has nothing to do with my previous statement on the adjustment bolt/notch.

Set engine to TDC on one..
Pull cap off.
Tell me, is your rotor 30 degrees advanced or retarded?
If yes, pull dizzy, clock rotor 30 degrees ATDC, and it'll go to TDC.
Protip: Rotor turns when dizzy is installed.
