Well I have a stock 1985 toyota 4runner and I also have a set of 37"x12.50x15 MT/Rs. I'm really wanting to keep this thing as low to the ground as possible without doing anything drastic. I have thought about doing a 3" lift something like (downey, skyjacker, rough country) with the 37's and just cutting anything they rub on. But I'd really like to have at least a little flex and from what I have read most of these lift kits don't render much flex (if any).

Give me some idea's of what you would consider or what you would do.

I really like what this guy did even though it's IFS

I think if it didnt rub at all it would be pretty sweet. Why did that guy do it to an IFS truck? I really like the way it looks though it would be better on an 85

 

I'd sell the 37's and get a smaller set if you don't mind doing so. I think you would be better off, spend less money, and have just as good of a truck if you downsized. As long as this won't be a super hardcore trail rig in the future. Trying to fit 35's would be easier.

 

I could go smaller tires but I'd really really rather run what I've got.

 

What about a 4 or 5 inch lift?
that would get ya high enough to run the 37s

 

Read my first post. I want to stay as low as possible (That tosses out the idea of going 4 or 5 inches). Thanks for the thought though.

 

if its an 85, why does it have IFS.

And it deff looks like some did a BOB job on that beast, is it just me or does anyone agree ??
The paint on the rear seems alittle off, and it just looks too short

His 4runner is an 88 and it is bobed I just used his as an example of what I want to do to mine (low and wide with big tires)

I gotta be honest, I don't think you're gonna fit 37's without totally cutting wheel tubs out. That is a LOT of tire and a 3" lift is not as much as it sounds.

May I assume you'll be gearing down the axles? haha I mean the 22R(E) motor is good, but its not 37" on 4:10 gearing good. From what I've read, 5:29s are the best application for 35" tires. After that, you start chipping teeth.

I've also read somewhere that Toyota axles typically can only withstand such and such tire size... might be 35", might be 38"... don't remember.

Any professioanls wanna chime in on this? I'm just relaying stuff I've read from the real dudes.

 

You won't fit more than a 35 w/o tubbing the firewall back to the front cab body mount. 3" lift and some trimming in the front. 4" lift in the rear since it is a 4Runner.

Bracket lifts have NO flex.

I run 40s on my 85 with ease with the proper upgrades.

 

so if the wabbit runs 40s with NO problem, why cant this guy run 37s, since he already HAS them??? id rather run them then go thru the hassle of selling them then buying 35s or whatever.

Probably a 2" Body-lift.



Notice a gap between the bottom of the grill and top of the bumper??



Also for another point rock sliders I know for a fact you have to notch the bottom of the body seam to have them come straight out without a body-lift. The frame seems a little low to me because it sits way higher without a body-lift.

So yes it's doable with some trimming a small lift you can run large tires. I have 35's on my 4 runner and haven't done 1/2 the amount of work he has. I am going to do a 2" BL to keep mine from rubbing because it does rub on bump and turns and offroading badly..

 

37's are totally do-able on 3" of lift. Get the sawzall and welder warmed up! I'm also running 40's on 5" of lift. I've cut quite a bit to make them fit. I am also looking to lower mine an inch or 2 (I've got room for 42's since I was liberal with the cutting)

 

I ran pro comp leaves up front and a rear shackle/block and flexed great
