Stage 1 strip truck and prep. Engine is out. Still need to pull trans tcase and drive shafts. Ive removed clutch slave master pedal etc... all factory ac components, all vacuum lines, heater hoses, all unnecessay wiring etc. Only things I plan on leaving are power steering res. Brake booster wiper motor wires associated with running lights.

 

Stage 2 is tcase adapter install, motor mount install and rough fit of motor, trans, tcase in truck.

 

Pic of a c4, adapter, and toy case. Rumor has it all my drive shafts will work with this setup.

 

Adapter and engine mounts are both available at my summit store via AA. Right at $600 for the adapter and $120 for the mounts.

 

Body lift came in and is halfway on. Always wondered why 86-89 body lifts wouldn't work on 84-85 runners. Found out today. Different steering adapters. I'm gonna have to make a spacer for the rag joint.


Also ordered my adapter and motor mounts from Advanced adapters. Official total $738.00 nwor was about $200 higher. Either way I have to wait 3 weeks to get the shaft in. Everything else is on the way within a week so I can mock up and what not.

 

Scratch that the kit worked fine. I drilled out the spot tacks on the steering arm and slid it out about 2" no spacer or adapter needed. 86-89 bl on a 84.

 

Looking like quite a project. Does the 302 throw off the weight distribution at all?

 

The 302 is heavier than the 22r but of the v8 conversions its one of the lightest choices. In a perfect world I pick up some addicted offroad 4" lift leaf springs all the way around. But thats later down the road. For now I have an old set of rear leafs I'm going to chop up and add to the front pack to help with the weight.

It's not necessary but I'm looking at running my battery fuel cell and radiator in the back to help balance the vehicle.

 

Cool, sounds like you have it fairly well thought out. I'm not too familiar with the 302, what's it make for power?

 

302 = 200-225 hp, and 275-300 ft lb torque weighing in at 460 lbs

22r = 100 hp, 130 ft lb torque, weighing in at 350 lbs

Give or take on all the numbers think the weights are fully dressed.

 

More removal: gas tank, parking brake, and brackets associated with both. Removed dog bone from front axle and cut out both brackets the one on the frame was right where the 302 oil pump wants to live and the bracket on the axle looked like it wanted to dig into something. Sway bar removed and the trans tcase and front drive shaft is out.

Plan on pressure washing the frame and hitting it with some black rustoleum tomorrow and stripping the interior.

12 gal fuel cell on the way.

Only purchase I have left to nail down is my radiator. Also would like to find a newer style serpentine system for the front of the motor.

 

Sounds like progress is being made quick! I can't wait for pics!

 

Found a radiator: bone yard special out of a 92 Ford van $40. Guy there said he had a yota with a 383 with that same radiator and had a 18" thunderbird fan and that setup worked great. So now ive got to find a tbird fan.

Gotta love friends, buddy of mine fixed me up with most of what I needed for the serp. Set up. Ps pump, ac compressor and mount, (onboard air), crank pulley, water pump pulley. I just need the mount for my alternator and the pulley for my alternator. He also gave me a pair of manifolds, intake and plenum from an efi set up if I wanted to convert later.

 

Fml serp set up wont work. I have the v belt set up on the motor now with a standard rotation pump. Serp set up uses a reverse rotation pump which I have but the the reverse pump is not compatible with a mechanical fuel pump. so I am looking at mounting either the Toyota ps pump or the Ford ps pump only. Whichever is easier.

Alternator is set up with a march belt adapter water pump is electric I just have to figure out the ps.thought Serp was the easy way but was wrong.

 

Found an old ps pump with a vbelt pulley swapped it over to the pump I had.



These came in, thought i ordered bolt ins but I may have told em to send the cheapest. May send back for bolt ins.



Also had these jewels gifted to me. Time to break out the sand blaster.

Wheels came out nice. Tires need a good cleaning now.

 

Looking good! Did you take the tires off to blast them? I have the blaster and the my wheels need it too, but I was thinking I'd have to take the tires off. It doesn't look like you did so.
