Found bearing in Oil pan Yikes

Well on my 85 4runner the oil pan started leaking so being a good girl i figured id replace the gasket. I took the pan off and there is a bunch of peices of bearing. Im not sure where it came from the truck is still running fine. So will probably just keep running it till it acts up. I was just given this truck. It has been rebuilt once and rolled once. Not sure if the person who rebuilt the engine maybe didnt take the oil pan off. but i think you have to for rebuiling it. maybe he just did the top end? Any suggestions or opinions thanks.

I shouldnt have said bearings but its metal and it looks like a bearing. There are also pieces of hard black plastic. tommorow ill take some pics and post them. Ive done some research and seems like it might be the timing chain guides. if it is how hard is it to replace them? is there somewhere on here i can look it up? ive reuilt engines before so im pretty competent but never had stuff in my oil pan before. Thanks so much

The plastic is probably part of the timing chain guide. Do a search for timing chain replacement, there are many write ups about it.

ahhh the infamous cam chain guide, I'd be willing to bet thats what it is! I rebuilt mine, pulled the oil pan and found the same thing. The mechanic who did the work was possibly too lazy to pop the pan!

Not bearing, Part of timing cover

Well the pieces of metal in the old pan were actually pieces from the inside of the timing chain cover. along with the guide. So have the engine torn down and replacing as we speak. Thanks for all your help

check the timing cover realy well if you are going to reuse it. if the chain was hitting the cover it could have compromised the water passage thats behind the guides and will lead to a milkshake motor.
