Hi!
This is a popular and easy conversion.
Our TKS904 full dual roller timing kit will bolt right on the 1984 engine in place of the factory single roller set. That kit features both guiderails as steel backed, comes with tensioner, both gears and all the front end gaskets and seals..
You will need to obtain an oil pump drive spline off of a 1975 to 1980 20R or 1981-1982 22R.
There is room under the early timing cover, no problem at all.

now the engine is not the original but still a 22r, does anyone know how to verify the year of the engine? I would really like to just get an older oil drive spline and put a dual timing chain on it.

It came with everything I needed and including the spline and oil pump. It also came with a list of which engine and what years the parts cam from.
I can't vouch for the 22r but I know with 22re I had to drill the welds and remove part of the oil baffle in the valve cover near the oil fill.
Just my 2 cents.
Ps: If I was at home I'd list what was on the paper. Unfortunately I'm away for work at the momemt. Sorry.

Ted is exactly right (EB) .. this is all you need to do . I also have done it numorous times
head and bolck measurments are the only way to be sure of the exact engine you have
