doug thorley lc or nwor headers

so i have this big debate, i just bought an 85 4Runner 22re and i want to buy a header for it but theres just so damn many and what ive read they all seem to be pritty good but for the most part ive narrowed my search down to three products the try y which are the doug thorley and north west off road headers and the long tube lc headers ive read that the try y desighn gives more lower end torque then the regular long tube headers im not really sure how that works but i havent really heard any thing bad about doug thorely everyone seems to be very satisfied with there header but the one i didnt hear to much about was the nwor header i looks pritty much the same as the DT header but with a slip on bottom flange no gasket required but i did hear that the customer sevice is ty from nwor i also hear that the lc header is really good a little pricy but good i just dont know what to do i really need the extra power espeshally when i get into the higher altatude the big hills kill me i have my money in hand and im ready to purchase my header i just need some help on which one should give me the best power money not being a problem i figure im gonna pay for a good quality header anywhay does any one have any ideas or maby personal experiance that might b able to help me out?

I used the NWOR on my 94 4x4. That was about 10 years ago. I just bought the very same header for my 85 4Runner (not installed yet). Obviously I've been happy with them. Sure have come up in price though.
I'm also running an LCE street header in my 85 2wd pickup. The LCE was less expensive, very nice finish, and great quality welds. However the fit with the LCE was soo bad I could not believe it. Way too close to the bell housing and coolant pipe. The header connector pipe would not even "dry" fit. I spent some extra $$ and time working those bugs out. LCE says that "toyota had different tollerences from year to year, so some are a tight fit". Happy with the final gains though.
No personal experience with DT. Hope this helps a little

I don't remember exactly but I think it was about $540. 10 years ago same header I swear was about $240. They make you call in for a quote.

I've got Thorleys on my truck, I love um, just required some welding to finish all the piping. I just put a newer (85) 22r engine in and I'm having some leaks from the mating surface welds they did but I emailed pictures to them still waiting to hear back. But other than that there my top choice.

Where in hawaii r u from?

Aurite. I'm 07 too from kona on BI. 540s way to much for headers. I say thorleys are right in the right price range for quality. I payed 330 I think from summmitracing.com but I think the prices have gone up a lil.

Headers in theory are a great boost in efficiency in engines, but for the 22re are they really worth it for the Cost vs Benefit? I do not want to bash your decision to buy one, I am just curious if this is a good mod to put on my To Do list. I understand it is going to be even more costly since you live in Hawaii. Long live the 22re!

i got the DT 550-Y on mine and i love it, but as 808derek said, it did require a little welding to finish up the piping. if you google search you can find them for cheaper. i found mine for about 350 instead of $450 so thats a lot of money saved. just my $.02

I've had LCE headers on 3 trucks now, all fit great. The one on my current 22r is losing it's ceramic coating though.
