I'd personally rather it be U-joints.. They are less hassle to replace(you don't have to drop the trans.)

Well, with the larger tires, more strain on the drivetrain (4 wheelin) and the added slipping of the clutch to get through tight spots - I would rather have something performance based than OEM. Doing a clutch, though somewhat simple in the act - is a pain when considering how much is involved to do the job. I want to put something in I don't have to go through this often.

OEM is for stock rigs, modified rigs require more than OEM.

i know you already bought a clutch but for future reference for anyone, the Luk pro-gold doesnt make it any harder to push the clutch in, it held up great behind my turbo motor with 33" tires, never any slippage.

Well, we got the tranny replaced with a good used one (Thanks AZBearsFan!), and put the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in. A couple friends came over Friday night - we had the tranny/transfer out within 2 hours. We called it a night. Then Saturday we got going on it again @ 10:00 AM and had it done by 3pm. We weren't in a big hurry. We took our time.

Additionally, while everything was out I needed to replace the Rear Main seal on the engine. In case I haven't said it before, I *REALLY* appreciate the way Toyota engineered it's vehicles. Everything is so straight forward and a PLEASURE to work on and change things out.

It all works like a charm - the clutch doesn't have a firm petal. It hooks up great and it drives like a dream. I am very happy with it so far!! I just have to get through the break in period on the clutch.

I got in my 85 this morning to go for a wheeling trip....GRINDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD DDDDDDDD!

The clutch had been fine before now...and the possible causes don't necessarily mean needing a new clutch.

I'd like to hear how your clutch looked when you replaced it and if you replaced your MC and slave cylinders as well when you installed your new clutch.

Thanks.
