Disc brakes

Does anyone know where i can get a disc brake convertion kit? I have found them on a few websites but all are for 86 and up and i know that they are not the same. So if anyone knows a website or a custom home kit that they have pics of and could post them i would be very greatful and thanks in advance.

They should fit through all the years. The difference in those years are axle width and tube diameter. All the kits get bolted to three/four of the bolts that hold axle/brake assembly to the axle tube.

Example of the set you made?

To the OP: sky's will work on the narrower 79-85 axles.
When I was looking for a kit to fit my 81 two suppliers told me their kit was not guaranteed to clear the rear spring, the 86-95 rear axles is 1.5" wider from the spring mount so has more clearance for the caliper.

Yep. It's the axle width that will get you on the earlier axles on most rear disc kits.

Is it better to go with a rear disc conversion or get the V6s for the front? I mean, most of the braking is done by the front end, so it seems like it would be easier just to go with the bigger brakes there, cheaper too since you can source them from the junk yard.

yeah i dont think ranger ones will work unless i drill them out. looks like your the one who doesn't know much about trucks lol...well when i got the truck the guy who had it before had taken everything off the back. the only thing he left was the backing plate. so i figured that since it was already off and i needed to run new brake lines anyways why not do a disc convertion??? and i might do the v6 upgrade to the front as well.
