Did I get a bad water pump or is this the Timing Chain
I have a rebuilt 22r with some mods. When I bought the truck, it was overheating, but not bad and I changed everything(thermostat, hoses, coolant, radiator, and finally, the fan clutch). The clutch ended up being the problem. However, on Saturday, I drove a few blocks and when I stopped I heard a rattling noise and I had coolant dripping from near the water pump. It had not gotten hot, so I just went back and bought a new water pump and installed.
After the install, I started it up, let it warm up, and I had no leaks so I went to take it on a test drive. I get a few blocks and I hear the same rattling noise and I have lots of coolant coming down from "near" the water pump area. However, while looking at it, I don't see coolant coming from the water pump at all, or at least not around the gasket, but I couldn't tell where the source of the leak was.
I am afraid the guides to the timing chain may have went and I have a hole in the TC cover, but I can't see it if that's the problem. Any ideas? I searched, but couldn't find a description like mine, so I thought someone on here may have had a similar problem. Thanks!

Pump will likely leak out of the weep hole, located on the bottom of the snout where the shaft extends through. Hole in TC cover will allow oil/water mixing, usually not an external leak from what I have heard.

I feel dumb, but this might help out anyone else with the symptoms. It wasn't the water pump after all. When I had the old one out, and I turned it, it didn't make any noise, but it was much more free spinning than the new one, so I thought that was what I was hearing. In reality, the leak was from the heater hose that goes to the back of the water pump(its right above the alternator) and the noise I was hearing is my AC clutch (which has not worked since I bought the truck back)...two unrelated problems that conspired to make me think my water pump blew.
However, I have a new water pump now and it was probably time for a new one.
