deisels badley and looses all power when secondary throttle is opened

hopefully my title is clear. here's the deal. 85 22r carburated.my son brought it to me saying it started running terribly, which it was.it sounded as it had jumped time as it sounded like it was binding while trying to start. what happens it will start and idle ok with a slight miss. it is driveable, power is sluggish. when you give it enough gas to open the secondary throttle it will loose power completely until you let off the gas and it will return to running ok. it will do the same thing in the driveway opening it by hand. evrey time shutting it off it diesels so bad you have to kill it in gear. so far i have checked the timing and adjusted ,changed carbs, changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fresh gas with heet, new plug wires, checked the compression(175 all 4),cheched the resistance specs for the coil and distributer and the vacuum advance appears to be working. it also doesn't matter weather the air cleaner is on or off and i see no broken or loose vacuum lines. sorry for all the details. thanks for any advice.

have you checked for vacuum leaks around the base of the carb and the intake? replaced your PCV valve lately?

sprays gas up through carb

well i replaced the pcv valve with no change. i discovered that the reason it is loosing power or stalling out at heavy or wide open throttle is that it is spraying quite a bit of fuel up out of the carb and has a "crackling, popping sound" and if i put the aircleaner top on thats when it stalls . the air cleaner top gets quite wet with gas. i put a compressed air test on each cylinder to make sure i didn't have a blown head gasket or cracked head or anything and that tested out fine. now i think maybe egr valve.
