Cruise Control

I was working on my 1990 4Runner today and just sort of noticed there is no speedo cable going to the cruise control module. How does this thing get it's speed information? Does it receive a signal from the speedometer after the fact, or does it rely on some other form of speed sensing?

This isn't anything critical, just something I found myself wondering about.

You might have better luck getting responses if you post this in the 86-95 Trucks & 4Runners forum instead. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/
