CLutch issues 85 SR5 Truck

Hello everyone I am new on this board just joined today. I'm a regular on Pirate4x4.com and Ih8mud.com.

I've got a dilema on my hands I have a 85 Truck with a 22re with a 5 speed. Problem is when the truck sits idling in traffic the clutch seems to get hot and start to slip. I don't have my foot on the clutch just sitting there it gets hot I pressume and starts to slip.

If I start the truck up in the morning and let it run for more than 10 mionutes the clutch will slip if it is hot outside it will start to slip if I get into stop and go traffic. The clutch it has in it is not more than 6 months old...

The old clutch it had did that also but it had that clutch in for over 100,000 miles.

The new one doesn't have 3k on it.

I replaced clutch with a new clutch, new flywheel, new slave cylinder replaced everything but the master.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I though someone here would be able to shed some light. I spoke to a couple of guys and they said post up on yotatech they give you some info. Guess not.
If I can't figure it out. I'll probably just sell it or let it sit till I put a diesel in it.

since you say its over heating it actually sounds like the rod on the clutch pedal going to the master is too tight. i believe there is supposed to be like 1 1/2 inches of play (dont quote me on that) in the pedal if its too tight the clutch will be partially engaging which means friction hence the heating problem. thats my guess, but there is also (i think) an adjustable rod on the slave cylinder.

adjust ur petal in a lil.sounds like ur petal is not letting out all the way and causes the throw out bearing to ride the pressure plate and wont let the clutch engage fully. try a 1/2 to 3/4 turn on pedal adjustment.

I will check it again. I had set it up at approximately 1.5 inches but I might have set it up wrong. I will check that again.
Thanks guys

the exact same thing happened to me just bring back the clutch master cylinder and get a different one, thats what I had to do and it worked right away when I put the replacement for the replacement in.

Odd for a clutch to slip in low gear... does the clutch slip in high gear around 45-55 MPH? If not then its something with the pedal. But if it slips in high gear too then the clutch is at fault. Did you put OEM Clutch and flywheel in? Hope you didn't go with a "Light wieght flywheel"...... But Since you replaced everything but the master cyl it could very well be the master cyl is not keeping a constant pressure causing the friction plate to back off al il and thus slipping.... possible bad Clutch master cyl.... pedal adjusment is also a serious factor and must be done correct. Another possible is the shift fork may be bent.... highly unlikely but is possible.
