Well I went and got myself a new used transmission for my 85 4runner. The reverse gear went out in mine so I picked up a used tranny for $250. It is a 5 speed W56. Anyways with the help of my dad and Fairchild AFB hobby shop Lift I am going to replace the broken one. Besides a clutch kit is there anything else I should replace when I do this?
Also I will be replacing the front springs (the Passenger side is sagging a inch lower then the drivers side), U joints front and back, new diff oil, oil change, and plugs/ wires. My 4 runner has basicly been sitting for 4 years but still starts ups and runs, is there anything else I should do?

Shifter base and seat wouldn't be a bad idea. Real cheap and helpful.

Also, grease up everything with a zirc fitting. If the u-joints aren't bad there is no need to replace them. Toyota U-joints are pretty stout. Just grease them up and see how it does. I would use factory Toyota tune up stuff (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.).

I got a set of 3" lift springs that will fit that truck. PM me if you are interested.

 

When I got back from the desert 6 years ago I put a 4 inch lift on the truck, 33 BFG Muds, 4.88 gears with a detriot in the rear. The lift kit worked great for a while but then I noticed the passenger side was sagging. The company that sold it to me (NWOR) dicked around with me for a while and then when they finally did send me the paper work to get repalcement springs I had no way of getting the springs off to mesure them. Anyways I got the new springs for the front. I am pretty sure the U joints in the rear are bad, there is a whinning/ screaching noise from the rear end so I am hoping that is what it is.

 

OK, I will come clean, I do not know that much about cars and trucks, besides the basics I am somewhat lost. What are the cap's and rotors?

Distributer cap and the rotor is inside of the cap, it's what points at the spark plug wires & fires them. Go to Toyota & ask for plugs, wires, cap & rotor and they'll give you what you need. Look at your engine & you'll see where they go. The Toyota ones even have the spark plug wires labled 1 through 4 for your convenience. If you can't figure out how to get them in after that with some kind of repair manual, you shouldn't be doing this yourself.
