Which carb should I look at
I got a 85 4x4 with a 20r/22r hybrid I'm currently deployed and was looking at getting a new carb when I get back since the one I have now..a weber not sure of the model...is giving me issues. Since I've put this motor in it has been dying under hard braking and diesling on shutdown. These are new issues since I've put this motor in and the previous owner of the motor was using a stock 22r carb and had no issues. The only new factor to this combo is the carb from my old motor. It's obviously not jetted right since I can turn the mixture screw all the way in without the truck dying. Since the 20r head did not have the mechanical fuel pump I added a external electrical pump with a pressure regulator set at 2.5-3.0. I pretty much want a carb that will give me the performance I need for off roading and do well for Daily Driving. Thanks for the advice.

On the carb, I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. Post up some pics of your weber and we can probably give you more help. I am running a weber 38 with performance head, header, cam, offenhauser intake, and mechanical fuel pump. Its pretty flawless right now.
Before I did the rebuild, I had the two adapter plates on the carb base. That was prone to leaks, so just switching to one of the newer adapter bases will help, if you are having leaks.
Post up, and let's see what you got.

Dieseling on shutdown is fixed by adding the idle cut-off solenoid. What have you done to tune the carb?
There are troubleshooting guides out there for people having issues with their weber carbs. Did you have the 20r head ported and larger valves put in? You should have.
Weber 38 would be the best option for a hybrid engine. Find out what size jet(s) are in the carb before troubleshooting though. But it sounds like if they have been changed they are too big and the engine is getting too much fuel.
What kind of engine was that carb on? Typically a hybrid engine needs a little more fuel due to higher flowing head and slightly higher compression.

Well I got some photos...and to answer questions it came off a 22r motor no issues...I did not build this engine my friend did. That's why the head isn't ported.... But here's the Pics

Well i took it apart and found gunk all in it so i cleaned it out really good looked over every part....put it back together and rebased all tuning.....Tuned it and got it to run smooth and very responsive. im at 2 1/4 turns out from bottom on the mixture screw. and in 1 3/4 turns from first contact on the idle screw. it fast idles at about 2k rpms til the choke disengages. so it dont look like i need a new carb after all just needed 3 months of idle time to think about it. It still diesels but i bought a cutoff solenoid so it should be all gravy from here.

Good deal. Cleaning and Tuning is the most common issue with the webers. Especially tuning. Oh and it appears to be the 32/36 you have. 2 1/4 turn sounds good. Just keep an eye on the plugs.
