Carb or other?

Ok folks in need again. I bought a 85 4wd a while ago. Its lifted 35's stock engine carb etc. I was getting really good mileage HOWEVER this is no longer true. I have dropped a ton. I have noticed that it seems to be running rich. Its using some oil as well. Not a ton but some. Heres the funny thing its not burning it or leaking it. Its not in the coolant either. So only thing I can figure is it is loosing it on decel? Has some smog stuff left factory aisin carb? No cat fresh tune up plugs, cap, rotor, filters. But this has got me stumped. Was thinking valve seals but not sure. Is it possible to toss another head on with rv cam and not hurt bottom end? Would end valve questions. Then if I still have issues I will tackle them. Has just under 130k. Thanks in advance folks Also 539's.

I have done several headgaskets and valves seals like you have mentioned. I did have one when I did that to it raised the compression and blew out a ring. That has only happened to me once in the motors I have done. It is always taking a chance and has worked out quite well for me. With the low miles you have on your motor I would do the valve seals if that is what you are thinking.

No suggestions for the carburator. My brother did put a Webber on his and it made a big difference. The carburator is old and probably needs a good going thru. But you ought to ask someone that knows the carbs better then me. Not a strong point of mine.

read quite a bit about the weber but still unsure. Im not a "carb guy" by any means I know my way around things but not a meckanic. Heck I hear lots of good things about these engines so just a matter of tinkering on it until I get it figured out. Would sure like to have my mileage back. Wish I knew more about the engine though, not sure if its underpowered or just the way it is. Guess I will have to do a comp and leak down. Take the carb to a carb guy and go from there. Any other help would be great as well thanks folks.

So as far as the stock carb goes do a rebuild or gasket kit to re do the carb re did mine and I went from 17 miles a gallon to 23 miles per gallon the old carbs are just as good as the webber if u restore them and to do that u have to take them apart and soak them in parts clean for a day or so then start the rebuild

With a drop in mileage that sudden id say dirty carburetor. If you believe your loosing oil on deceleration that is bad rings.
