Broken Wheel Lug

i have a 1988 4runner with a 85 SAS. the Passenger side front wheel has a lug broken off, i dont know how it got like that, i bought it broken. Does anyone know if i have to replace the whole knuckle/axle shaft peice, or do the studs unscrew and i can just replace it. What is required to fix this?

Pound it out and get a new one from your local autoparts store.

Bang the old one out through the back of the wheel hub, then put the new one in, stack a ton of washers on it, and threa da lug nut onto the end till it makes contact with the washers, then hit it with an impact gun, it will tighten doen the lug nut against the washers, and pull the wheel stud into the hub. They are an interference fit, which means they have to be pressured into the hole, and there is no room BEHIND to get a BFH in there, thats why you use the air gun trick. Good luck.

Time for the BFH and pin to hammer em out. I would be caution with the autozone brand, when I went through this exercise with mine, their brand wasn't wide enough, or long enough. Not sure if the 84 and 85 wheel studs are the same diameter. Thats my $.02

I went to the dealer for my replacements. $5.00 each.
