Hey guys I'm getting ready to rebuild my motor and want to do some upgrades. I'm looking to port and polish the head and bore out the cylinders. Any idea if it will pass a California smog check? If not then why?

I have a 0.020" bore and TRD cam on my 22RE and it passes smog OK, NOx is the biggest issue on the earlier 22REs with the primitive EGR system.

 

I was looking to bore .030 or .040 over. How well does it pass smog? Do you think it would still pass smog with that?

 

just lower the fuel pressure when you smog it. so it gets leaner

 

Mine hits single digits on the HC and CO tests, but gets close to the limit on NOx. Bore should have little impact on smog, still essentially the same basic engine, you are only adding 50cc or so to the displacement.
