Auto to Manual Trans?

I'm a newbie to the forum, so don't roast me too bad. Anyways, I have an 85' Xtra Cab with an automatic and want to change it to a manual 5 Speed. Has anyone done this with any success? Trying to figure out where to begin and what to look for as far as transmissions go. Any help is much appreciated

By far the best and easy way Find yourself a complete truck with a 5 speed 4x4

maybe a bad engine to much rust accident damage etc.

trailer that home or drive.

all the parts you need right there at hand

I done a few over the years

I agree with Wyoming 9. The best way is to get a complete truck or a parts truck. You'll need a lot of different parts some large some big. You'll need clutch master cylinder, tranny, all the associated lines, pedal assembly, just to name a few. Good luck!

Can be done. I did this back when I had an 89 4runner. Swapped out the auto trans for a manual 5 speed transmission. Like previous people said, get a donor. You'll need transmission, clutch setup, pedal assembly, etc. I found a donor in a junk yard and pulled all necessary parts. This was 10 years ago so don't have much details.

Easy swap. Just find a trans and t-case. All the rest of the parts can be had off a 2wd that is easier to come by. you will need to jump the wires for the neutral safety, I think It was just to connect the 2 big white wires together or something like that. been years. I have done my own fair share of swaps on these trucks.
