another odd ball gem

Hey all, first post here -
I know how Toyota is with regard to model years vs. vehicle models, so-called 1/2 years etc, but I always thought the model designation was the defining value. My newly acquired Toy (RN66 per VIN) is somewhere between a RN65 and RN66 as the RN66 FSM does not cover the solid front axle much to my surprise.
So, in my (lucky) case, the truck has both EFI and solid axle which must make it actually a RN66.5 Ha! Bad news is I need another FSM for front axle values (1985 version) - when I ordered the manual, I really expected to find both front axle versions but no dice, I guess I should not complain. Anyone have similar experiences or other insight, it's appreciated, I thought I had this all figured out long ago -ha!

Thanks

I know it's vague, I was just looking to see if others had similar experiences seeking FSMs, esp for this model/year. not a deal breaker, I was just curious.

I'm also seeking factory parts catalogs - maybe trade, I have a few i don't need maybe...

My FSM covers all models available for the model year. Since my truck is a 1987, I got a 1987 FSM. I don't completely understand the model designation but it sounds like your truck is a 1985 model (the only model year to have both EFI and Solid Front Axle). The 1985 FSM is the one you will need!

Maybe not. My truck was originally sold in 1985 (per pink slip) It is a RN66. (per VIN) so, i get a FSM that covers a RN66 - it is a 1986 model manual but, I was thinking that, like all early toys I have owned the model (in my case RN66) took precedence over the year designation. An apparent error. Maybe.

The 1985 FSMs are for the RN65, (model coverage is noted on page 1) a model which I do not own.

So, before I buy a manual for a model I don't own I want to make sure it covers both the front axle and EFI.
I am betting it does, but I am just trying to wrap my mind around the relationship of model year vs. model # (if it is at all possible), again I know Toyota's wacky in this way so I guess I should not be surprised

Toyotas NEW model year starts in Sept.
production date is the key , not the serial #
