92 T-case swap: shifting problem

I have an 85 with a G52 transmission with a forward shift t-case. I swapped a t-case out of a 92 after mine went went out. I can't shift it into 4 low via the shifter because it won't shift the low range rod back far enough. I can take a screwdriver and shift the rods into all gears of the t-case and it works perfectly.

My ideas:
1. shift rod is bent so its range of motion is altered and the shifter can't push it back far enough

2. There is a different style of shifter I need. (I doubt it)

3. thought about cutting a notch in the shifter cup to allow the stick to go back farther.

I just wanted to bounce some ideas off of y'all or if anybody has heard of this before. Thanks

I believe the top shift and forward shift cases have different shifters. Is it possible you have them mixed up, or is it possible to spin it round 180*?
