85 Toy electrical/fuel problem

I have an 85, 4wd, 22RE basically stock. I had an overheating issue and had to have the head worked. I put everything back together, now it won't start. I have been running tests and replaced a couple of parts, but not any better. I found some ground wires that I had apparently overlooked (oops) hooked them up, and it ran for twenty minutes and now nothing. Something is draining my battery, but I have been unable to locate what it is. Thought it was the fuel pump, which is new, because the charcoal canister keeps filling with fuel while the key is out of the ignition and at random times, even when I think the battery is completely dead. I haven't heard of anything like this, please help. I desperately need my truck back.

I just replaced the EFI relay in the cab under the dash, it started and idled, then the idle went bad, and white smoke came out of the tailpipe. It died and now won't start again.

I know that white smoke usually means coolant being burned, the only way for that to happen is the head gasket is messed up, but it's new and the compression is good in all the cylinders. The only thing I can think is the bolts got stretched when it overheated and as it warms up they stretch out again, maybe? I still have the underlying problem of a parasitic draw and the charcoal canister filling with fuel. I miss my truck

There's no power going to the fuel pump unless the ignition is on, but fuel is being pushed up from the tank to the canister. I have run electrical tests on the wiring and found nothing out of the ordinary, but this has to be happening for some reason. Am I missing an electrical test? Could the ECM be causing this? Are there two pumps in the fuel tank? I know of the one in the front, but what is the one in the rear for?
