85 short block in an 88?

Is there any reason I can't use a 22r short block from an 85 in my 87 EFI runner?

Thanks

The short blocks are different I think they changed mid 85 but not sure. The way to tell the early 22r from the later is on the drivers side just behind the engine mount is a machined flat spot with tabs on either side. This was where the oil port fro the turbo engines was machined out. The deck height is different on the older one and while everything bolts up the timing chain will be like 1/2 tooth off and never run quite right.
