85 Runner automatic troubles
#1
I have looked but cannot find a awnser for my problem. I have a 85 4runner 22re automatic. It has always been a little picky about when it shifts through all gears, but after a longer than usual trip this week it will not shift into overdrive. This happened on the way home and I drove it about 15 miles without having a overdrive. It was running on the cool side so I changed the thermostat along with the transmission filter and fluid, guess what still no overdrive. It does shift alot smoother through all other gears but will not go to overdrive. My normal/ power buttons have trouble staying selected, but mostly stay on power or neither lights up. I have no warning lights flashing on the dash other than when the rpm's get too high in any gear before shifting. Any info would be great, I am just about ready to throw in the towel with it.

I have not replaced the shift solenoids, I was hoping it would be something a little more simple. If I have to spend around $200 to swap those and it still may not work I think I would do a 5 speed swap and be done with it.
