Well, first off, a 3.0 in an 85' is strange enough. The V-6 was not even used until 1988.

Anyway. If you can get me the engine serial number off of the engine (the flat machined surface just below the "3VZ" embossed onto the block on the drivers side, below the head surface) I can tell you what year it was produced. Not sure if that will be any help in your situation. It could be a start though.

If you are just asking for tune parts at the store, just tell them it's a 1990 V6 4-Runner or pick-up.

The 5 mpg? That is a tough one.
are you sure someone is not siphoning gas from your tank when it's parked?
at that rate of fuel consumption, there should be raw gas flowing from the tailpipe!

Has it been that way since you got it? Did it just start all of a sudden? Since you are unsure of gearing and such, what rpm is the truck running at when cruising? Way high? Does it seem to have a lack of power?
I know you can't talk to the PO this week, but I'd also ask him what kind of mileage he was getting....

1990 alright sweet thanks man.

The gas mileage has been horrible.. the rpms cruising runs about 3000.. the only power loss i experience is goin up hills while on the highway other than that its not too bad..
