85 Front Spring Shackle w/ PIC

HI Im in the process of "thinking" about lifting my sons 85. My only real road block I can see is this spring pearch /shackle deal. Whats the best way to tackle this. If I force it to its original spot will it stay? Any input would really help. Brad

What are you talking about?

:wabbit2:

Oooh I missed it in that pic. Not enough coffee.

Many of the different lift kits comes with a new front hanger that replaces the stock one.

That is the spring "hanger", shackle is the piece at the rear of the spring that swings back and forth. You could try bending that back, but the metal may have been weakened and replacing might be the best fix:

Hey look, Your sons front leaves look like sad faces too. Same as mine.

I am asking for me, so if this is a hyjack i apologize. Do you think that if the RUF swap is done, the rear springs will hold up under the additional weight of the motor? I am more asking for my runner.

I have been doing alot of reading and I am thinking pretty hard about RUF and then Ford 57's. But I am concerned about the springs in the rear (they look good now) flatening out right away and being in the same boat as I am now.

I feel your sons pain the ride quality with about 3/4 in to hit the bump stop is not very nice.

You'll need to add some additional leaves to the rear pack. I ended up with a total of 6 leaves in my RUF pack (all stock leaves):

Hey Spideynut, I don't know where you live but HiLuxer is in Tampa, FL. (right up the street from me) He has some 4 in lift springs going pretty cheap right now. Just looking out brother.

Yeah, sorry forgot to put my location. Hawaii. I actulley I have a set of new 4in springs we got for a good deal. I guess 4in wasnt enough lift for what he (seller) wanted to do. That was going to be my next question. What else would I need to lift the truck? I only have the front springs. Super budget so just blocks in the back for now. Brake kit and shocks? Brad

Shocks for sure, may need to adjust the front brake lines, maybe lengthen the front drive shaft if needed:

Thanks for the suggestions. If I I go with a new hanger, will my Miller 110v handle the task? Ive only used it on sheetmetal work.

Ok so finally getting around to lifting this truck. I was looking around wabfabs web site and found a pair of front hangers to weld on. Will my 110 miller handle the task? If not I need to find a welder to come to my house. I've only used the 110 for simple body work. I know miller says up 1/8 steel but... this is my sons suspension were talking about. Brad

That depends on your welding skills.

On suspension components I'd typically recommend a big boy welder unit, 180 or above not a 135/140.
