85 4runner harmonic balancer/pulley leak

okay so i just bought this 85 4runner with the 22rE and a week later blew the hg,So i replaced headgasket and the oil pump, water pump, and new timing chain and guides.I also replaced the front crank seal.well even after i replaced it it still leaks,So i took it off replaced it with another crank seal and put a sleeve on the pulley also,It is still slinging oil! Are these toyotas known for not working with timken crank seals?or am i going to have to buy a new pulley which im guessing only the dealer has?btw oil pump is just oem one from autozone, could this be problem?
Thanks, Josh
Any input is appreciated

I would check for a groove worn in the pulley where the seal may ride. Sometimes you can vary the depth that you seat the seal to cause it to ride on a good surface that's not worn down.

But I would also check how tight the seal is on the balancer while it is off and in your hands. And make sure that the seal is installed straight, and nothing is cutting/nicking the seal lip upon installation of the balancer.

And be sure to put a little grease or oil on the sealing lip of the seal. If you install it dry, when the engine fires up, the friction can melt the lip...

If it's designed for some type of adhesive, then you need to find out which type. I have only seen one, at a machine shop, that didn't use something to adhere it to the part it was sealing. It was a press-fit situation. But then again, I'm not highly experienced with speedo-sleeve things. I personally don't like them. Used one once on a Cruiser, it failed, and I swore them off. For. Ev. Had a similar situation on my first 85'. Started slinging oil so I went and replaced it. Almost immediately started leaking again. Did some research and found out about the dreaded groove. Buddy of mine told me to get a gasket for a newer 22r/re Like a 92 or some year because they're thinner in width and with a little measuring you can tap it into the pump so that the lip of the gasket will avoid the groove.

You gotta be very careful tapping that fickle little gasket in though because it's not as durable as the thicker/earlier version. It beats going the sleeve route, IMHO.

Good luck either way.
