As far as gas mileage, I don't care if i get about 17-18 or so w a little gear and a couple people in the truck. I'm not looking for something that gets 30, that's for sure.

Sell it to someone that wants that engine and buy an 80 Land Cruiser. You will be money ahead.

Get a 1uzfe . lots of power, cheap to buy,very reliable and efficient. FYI a 2jz is an I6(inline) not a v6

ok, yes I know that about the 2jz. I was not paying attention when I wrote it. Thanks for pointing it out though.

That's seem like a possibility, what kind of tranny options are out there?

ok, so I think i've narrowed down the choices then. I either want to put an efficient v6 in it or if possible convert the 84 engine in my 4runner to fuel injected and build the engine up w/some upgrades in order to get the most power of out it.

Dang, ya beat me to it...

If you swap in an LS1 you will need motor / trans / t-case (which you knew), but add to the list: axles that can take the power and all the wiring, mounting points and a lot of time and money.

If you go with something that is more common ( Toy 3.4, Chevy 4.3, 350) then you get the benefit of knowledge of others and 'kits' that are available. You won't have to fabricate everything. And, most importantly (in my mind), you won't be 'guessing' with everything and it's placement.

The most important thing to remember is to take lots and lots of pictures and post them for us.

for sure. I will def. take a lot of pictures. I'm just trying to find the best choice for a swap. Fuel efficiency and power. It's going to be EFI and i'm thinking a 6 cyl. The chevy 350 would be cool though power, but no mileage at all.

Anyone know if an 84 22r can be converted to EFI? I'm thinking of building up that motor w/better parts to produce more power.

Yes it can, but if you are looking for power and efficiency, you are already on the wrong track with this thought. I have a 22re, freshly rebuilt with Engine Builder performance head and I probably lay down about 120 horsepower and only get 18 MPG on a good day. I am lifted on 33" tires with 5.71 gears. I really like my set up, but if I would have had the time and money I would have done a 3.4 swap, supercharged it and enjoyed the hell out of it.

when you are referring to the 3.4 you are talking about the newer yota engines right?

Yeah, used it Tacoma's from 96 to 04, the 05 got a 4.0 liter V-6.

It was also used in T-100, IIRC, but I don't know what years.

I'd like to do the ls1, but it seems w/that much power and a truck this size is just not a good idea. I think the motor would just tear the truck apart. I'm thinking the 3.4 would be a better option although I do like the ls1 idea too, but it doesn't seem feasible.

i've got a 3.4 in my 92 and i'm going 300 miles on a full tank and then some with a heavy foot. Deffinetly an upgrade in fuel mileage from my old 3.0, 220miles.

the swap was not that hard.. It seems extream and overwhelming before you start, but once you get going its not bad. Go to techinfo.toyota.com for all the wiring info and check the 3.4 swap section in the forums for all the other info on the swap. As far as the power goes, i'm running 4.56 gears 5spd and 265/75/r16 10 ply tires.. and i'm still spinning tires. I think they call that having your cake and eating it too.
