I am in the middle of working on my front axle and I wanted to throw this out there for anyone else that is attempting to work on the their axle and is contemplating buying the socket....But it!
I thought I could find one locally. Sears carries one online, but not in their stores. After searching everywhere, I did find a 55mm that was labled as being for use on Toyota RN, LN, and FJ's, which is also what the OTC brand says about their 54mm, so I bought it. Nope, its too big, so I ended up settling for a 2 1/8" socket. It is doing the job, but the problem I am running in to is that the last person to work on the front used the "chizzel my dizzel" method and tapped it out with a hammer and chisel. That works, but it leaves burrs on the edge of the nut that make the socket either a tight fit or not fit. Toyota only had two new 54 mm nuts, so I am using them and the best two of the old ones and sanding the edge down.

you dont even need a socket my buddy just did the front breaks on his 85 and its finger tight but if you do need something use a monkey wrench a big one lol but yeah they make a 54 mm socket just have to get it lol
mabey a monkey wrench fits on the 2wd's, but not on the 4wd's its recessed.
checkers and autozone both carry the 54mm socket for $15, worth every penny
if i ever see someone using a hammer and chisel again, imma gonna use the hammer on thier skull, retards...
I went to Autozone, Oreilly's, Advanced, Sears, Napa, Main Line, and A-1, and none of them had a 54mm so I settled for the 2 1/8. It fits, but the old 54mm nuts that were chiseled made for a tight fit.

I know they should not require a torque wrench, I wasn't the one that last tightened them down The nut behind the lock tab washer was loose, and was turning off while I bent the tabs back for the washer. But even with the nuts being installed so tight, they were not gouged up. I also installed new wheel bearings when I tore into my front end.
If you are going to work on your Toyota, don't do it half ass with a hammer and chisel, buy the right tools for the job the first time and do it right.
Did you smash it into a hex, or beat it onto the nuts or what?
I need to do mine, just wondering how well this will work for others, before I order a socket.

I used my small sledge and massaged the round tubing into a hex checking the fit with the hex washer(and NO I didn't beat it onto the washer while it was on the rig still). Once I had the fit down, I cut a tab at the other end of the tubing and folded it over and using a hose clamp secured it to the side. Cut and filed a nice 1/2" square for a wrachet and viola!! Now that I have a welder, I'll weld the tab down.
Here are some photos of a home made one using 2.5"exhaust tube and welded on large washer and spare 1/2" drive socket. Sorry I haven't figured out how to upload photos here yet. Anyone?
