4Runner top vs. Tree root

Well I was out 4 wheelin at a local area yesterday and found a pretty
good rocky hill climb. At the top there was a 2 foot or so rock ledge that stepped up to another ledge, the trail was already pretty steep and this just added to it. Well I needed to give it a little extra gas to make it up and when I hit the ledge it kind of shot me to the side and straight into a downed tree root that was part way into the trail. At first I thought the sound I was hearing was my cooler spilling so I wasn't too concerned but when I got to the top and stopped my passenger said check out your rear window. I did and found out it wasn't there anymore and the fiberglass top was all busted to crap.

I have no experience with fiberglass and this looks like a pretty tough fix, maybe its time for a can-back.

Ouch...talk to Slacker on here, I don't know if he does repairs or just fibreglass manufacturing, but he may be able to give you some tips.

I feel for you...X2 on PM Slacker (aka: Corey) he owns a toyota shop: http://toyotafiberglass.com/ that specializes in obviously fiberglass...he is an awesome source for info.

Here is a guy in Vancouver with a top for $75 might want to check it out:

This repair is more trouble than it's worth. You can buy a replacement top from craigslist for 50.00 to 100.00 all day long......

hey thanks for the links, I e-mailed the guy ocdropzone posted, hopefully he still has it. Yeah I figured it would be alot of work. Maybe if i'm bored some time I might try my hand at fixing it but probably not.

just make sure you keep that one laying around if you replace it. that way when you go wheelin, swap out tops if you have to. if i read a post that you destroyed a second top. i'll laugh. lol.

x2 on bobbing it though. Looks like it's time for a trail only rig.

You know, my dad patched a hole in our canoe not too long ago. It didn't take him too long at all. Couldn't you just whip up a "fiberglass cake mix" and lay it on like bondo? I bet you could make out a window lip easily enough that a new window would function.

I already have a top lined up so I'm probably going to chop this one into a half top.

Yeah I got the one you posted. For some reason I assumed it was black.

I was wrong. My truck is already getting called the Christmas tree.
