Also forgive me that I am not a mechanic and learning as I go.

I am in the middle of an 85 build (full frame off) that has a Chevy 4.3 TBI motor in it. I can get the motor to idle fine, however when I am driving it around the block and I give it gas, it will start to die.

I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the pressurized line right off the TBI unit and it is only reading 9psi. Should be at 12psi from everything I have read.

Here is the layout:
Stock Toyota Tank ->*NEW* Inline Fuel Filter (AutoZone generic) -> *NEW* Carter Competition Series Electric Fuel Pump -> TBI with a *NEW* JEGS Billet Adjustable TBI Fuel Pressure Regulator -> return to tank. I believe it is 3/4 tube throughout but I will have to measure when I get back home.

On thing that I am weird out about is that when I "adjust" the allen bolt on the Fuel Pressure Regulator nothing changes. It always measures 9PSI. Should I just put the stock one back on?

Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Does anyone have a 4.3 in their Toy (I know you are out there) that can give me there setup?

 

Well if it idles properly and then when you demand power fuel pressure drops. So what do you have for a fuel pump? Is it serious enough for the job? otherwise its the regulator not letting enough through to feed the engine. I'm not familiar with that pump, I wonder if something was broken when you got it.

 

Just read something about plugging the the return line which should make the pressure go up.

Just tried it and it didn't.

I guess I need a new fuel pump?

Anyone run one of these Airtex E2000 Electric Fuel Pump? Would that work?

 

My own druthers are for competition grade stuff. I just have less trouble with them. If successful racers at the track use it, its a safe bet it will work just fine for you.

There is a lot of cheap Chinese junk floating around, so I would be looking at aeromotive. yellow bullet. Not cheap; but no worries either.
