New to 4runners. Looked for a longtime to find a good 1985 4runner. The truck I purchased needs the engine rebuilt or swapped for a better alternative. The 2TR looks to me like a great swap although not the popular.

In researching putting together a 2TR swap in my 85 4Runner with an Automatic Transmission I have not found any information concerning the mating of a 2TR to the stock 1985 4runner automatic transmission. I have been searching the site for the answers to my questions without success therefore here we do with da questions.

I know Alpine_Motors did a successful 2TR swap with the 5 Speed transmission and was able to accomplish this swap with stock Toyota bell housing and clutch parts from various models as far a mating the 2TR engine to the stock 4runner 5 Speed transmission therefore my questions:

Does anyone now if the stock 1985 4runner Automatic Transmission will mate/bolt to a 2TR engine?

If so GREAT!

If not are there alternatives to make this swap with the original automatic transmission possible?

I know this thread is long dead, but by the off chance that someone runs across this in a google search in the future, no its not really feasible to do a auto trans 2tr-fe swap into a old truck. to my knowledge the auto trans used behind the 2tr does not have any aftermarket support to run a passenger side drop transfer case, and although it is possible to bolt up a 3rz auto trans the TCM used with the 2tr wont run the older transmission as it uses a completely different engine management system.
