Exclamation 22re Reprogram

I have an 85 22re 4x4 that I'm rebuilding again (thank god for warranties) and I want to know if there's a way to reprogram the ECU to better work with the .435 lift cam I put in it...This, heavier springs and balancing are all I've done so far...HELP!

Nope. You can get a stand alone engine management system....

I think the stock ecu can handle your cam.

Stand alone management? I'm not familiar with that. The truck ran great with this combo before a defect in the #4 rod detonated the bottom end, but just looking to add more torque, I guess. the motor really starts to wake up around 3k rpms, but up to that it's only marginal. I've heard of JET computers, but I think those are for the engines with the diagnostic "block" rather than the 2 pin "plug" that mine has for the ECU.

look into mega squirt for the stand alone system but yeah your motor should be fine with the stock ecu.

Well most likely the cam you got is designed for midrange to upper range torque. So I doubt anything you do to the ecm will help with the low end torque. You should consider a header, though. After driving another 22r with a header there is definitely a lot of gains from it.

ok, stock ECU...check. I'm using a pacesetter header now, with 2 1/4" all the way through a 40 series flowmaster. Should I go smaller on the exhaust to create more backpressure? or did I go too big on the cam?
