My 85 22re has 150K on it and its leaking like Heck. So much that their is standing oil in the skid plate. When it running its a consistent drip. WHAT THE H@$$

 

Front oil seal. It's on the front of the oil pump. If it has alot of mile, just replace the whole pump.


Check the back side of the pulley for a worn groove, you might need a sleeve.

 

I kinda dont want to do anything with it just take it to toyota.

 

Get the lube out

 

And bend over...

I know the guy that does all my work I go to church with him and I get all parts with his disscount and I trust him to not scerw me over so I wont be worrying about bent over.

 

Church: a good excuse to bend someone over without suspicion...

Just kidding, if you trust the guy, maybe have him do a full service...Timing chain etc. etc.

 

I took my truck to toyota yesturday and they had it done in a hour. He put a new oil pump seal and gasket where it bolts to the timing cover. He also put a stainless steel sleeve on the pulley shaft. Doesnt leak one single bit. But that was $165 later

 

$165!!! If I knew him, I'd pay that in a sec. I bought an oil pump today for $100. And that was a cheap one. I'm not going to like you very much tomorrow.

I'm having the same problem with mine. I've replaced the seal, sleeved the pulley and it's still dripping. But it's not real clear where the leak is.

I can let it idle for 10-15 mins. and no drips, drive it to work and there will
be a spot underneath at the end of the day.

Why would changing the oil pump be worth it?

 

I would say that changing the oil pump is worth it because...A) you ill have a brand new extremely critical component in your engine and B) perhaps the sleeve is loose on your current deal and is still letting oil come out...

When a dealer says dont change it than it sounds liek a good idea becuase all they want to do is make money but if you got the hook up like me you dont have to worry about it at all.

 

Opinions will vary, but in my opinion speedy sleeves are crap. Don't be surprised if your $165 deal starts leaking oil again in 5-6,000 miles. Been there, done that. It is almost impossible to get them on and still be true (round) so the likelihood of future excess wear is pretty good.
The best fix I've come across and actually done myself is to either buy the oil pump seal for I believe a 1994 22re which is supposed to be a different profile from earlier years or, as I did, to simply sand off 1/32-1/16" off the back of the seal and drive it in until it bottoms out. That will relocate the point where the seal rides on the crank pulley with no worries about a cheap part that either won't last or will damage the seal.
