OK..... I need to replace the Harmonic Balancer on my 85 22RE. IS there anything as far as tricks and sleves or gasket I will need that you guys can help with? Also is the Fuel filter as much of a bitch as it looks? Thanks

actually the fuel filter is easy, there is an access panel in the pass side wheel well. easy. the crank bolt can be loosened easily by putting a breaker bar or good 1/2 drive ratchet on and laying it on the steering box. putt it on the bolt and have it lay on that side. this may not be coming out as clear as i am thinking. and the just jog the starter, dont start it. works like a charm.

 

Nice....... Is there any kind of gasket or sleve i have to replace after removing the balancer? and do you know the torque specs when reinstalling the new one?

yes there is. i would replace that seal, it usually leaks oil. and the torque specs are something like 125 not sure. i always hate it when people just tellyou to search but you could have found this info like i did by searching. there is an article about replacing your timing chain that will have the torque specs.

(b) Torque the pulley center bolt.
Torque: 1,600 kg-cm (116 ft-lb, 157 Nm)

 

116 ft/lbs.

 

I filled #1 cylinder with rope, stuff it in, to loosen and tighten crank bolt. Put on TDC and back it off a little each way on and off. Stuff with rope and it holds the crank to torque it. Pete
