22re Ecu

Looks to me that my 85 didn't originally have a 22re in it but they swapped one in. I have a fault code that traced to the TPS. Started looking at it and made sure the ecu had wiring to it from it. The two pins where the ecu should be talking to the tps arent even pins. On the ecu it says 22R so does that mean its going to take a lot of work for the ecu to talk to the TPS?

Here are the ECU numbers courtesy of 4Crawler's website:

I have used the original ECU (89661-35020) and an '86 ECU (89661-35070) in my '85 4Runner and both work.

These come up on ebay quite often or you can get one from a breaker yard. I would start by comparing the wiring diagrams for the truck and 4Runner and try to see what harness you have installed. If you have an RE harness and all the wires are connected to the TPS, then you might get lucky and can just plug one of these ECU's in and it will work.

Good Luck.

I have a 1989 22re. My truck sputters at 15mph, I cant seem to drive 15mph at a school zone without my truck sputtering and jerking crazy. I conducted a diagnostic test and got a #12 (a/c, distributor) and a #51 (TPS) reading. any one familiar? where do i start?
